Start-up FAQs

Should I trade as a limited company or sole trader?
It depends on profit level, risk and funding plans. We’ll model both to show tax, admin and take-home pay differences.
Do I need to register for VAT from day one?
Not always. You must register when you exceed the threshold (rolling 12 months), but voluntary registration or Flat Rate can help in some cases.
How should I pay myself as a director?
Typically a small salary (within NI bands) plus dividends from profits, but it depends on your situation. We set a compliant, tax-efficient plan.
What software do you set up?
We deploy Xero with bank feeds and receipt capture (Hubdoc/Dext). We can migrate from QuickBooks/Sage or spreadsheets.
Can you help with payroll and pensions?
Yes. We set up PAYE, run payroll, and handle auto-enrolment with your chosen pension provider.
